Cook’s Book Club: a monthly book club for foodies

Read, and you shall eat its rewards…

I like to believe that I was born with a pen in one hand and a book in the other. Ever since I was a child, books have been my constant companion. I read when I’m bored, I read when I travel, I read when I’m drowning deep in work - in short, I read a lot and I read all the time. Add to that my absolute love for food, and you’ll find me cooking the books I read. well, not quite literally!

This crazy obsession with food and books that I have, tempted me to start a monthly book club event here on HoH. Each month I will pick a book that we can all read and enjoy, and at the end of the month, cook a dish inspired either by the story, or its characters. The books chosen will definitely be ones that are easily accessible in public libraries, and I’ll put up book selections a few months in advance so that everyone can get their copies in time. If you have any favourite books/authors you would like to see featured, please feel free to drop me an email at meena@hookedonheat.com with your suggestions.

Once you’re all set, shoot me an email at meena@hookedonheat.com to let me know and I’ll add you the round-up after the month’s deadline.

Just a few pointers to keep in mind while participating in the event:

  1. Make sure you send in your name, blog’s name with URL, and as well the title and link to your entry.
  2. In your post please include a link to my site, preferably this page, so your readers can get a chance to check it out as well.
  3. Please send only one entry per blog. If you do not have a blog as yet,  why not create one and join the likes of us? If that’s too much of a hassle for you, then simply email your entry to me at meena@hookedonheat.com.

So join me, won’t you, in a wonderful journey through reading, cooking and eating and a feast. Or maybe, take it a step further and form or join a real book club cookoff yourself. I, for one, would love to create one. Anyone interested?

UPDATE: Since I posted this announcement, many of you have emailed me and shown an interest in participating in an actual Cook’s Book Club. This has gotten me thinking about actually started one. If you live in the GTA (preferably Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville areas) and would love to be part of such a group, please email me with your interest at meena@hookedonheat.com. Thanks!
